  • Another vote for Blackberry Vodka - after a few months it goes a beautiful, cranberry red and looks gorgeous (very Chrismassy). Oh yes, it also tastes lovely ;)
  • Does anyone know how the alcoholic content is affected when making blackberry vodka? I've always fancied trying it.

Is there anything other than jam that can be made now for gifting at christmas?

Blackberry wine, 1kg of blackberries, sugar (how much you add will depend on how strong you want it), pectolase, nutrient and yeast, enough water to almost fill a 1 gallon glass demi john. Other things that can be added would be a litre of red or white grape juice, rhubarb other fruits etc. Plenty of recipes and guides on the web.

It isn't, all you would be doing is adding a flavour or sweetness by adding berries/sugars. Alcohol is produced by yeast eating sugar, yeast will not survive in spirit strength alcohol. If anything there maybe a very slight decrease in it's strength due to dilution from berry juice.

any flavoured vodka we ever made was pure rocket fuel :rotfl:

anyone who drank it straight (vodka werthers that year) was blind drunk. We put a note on the bottle to say to drink it with white lemonade but no one listened:rotfl: Each family member had an embarassing drunkedness when they drank the whole thing

    so always add mixer!

we've also made pear drop vodka and skittles. Pear drop is the best by far. We still have some left from last christmas! So easy to do.
