Blackberries

  • No problem, always glad to help and yes, just soak the dehydrated fruit or veg for a couple of hours and it rehydrates and you can use as you would fresh produce. I got a gadget that peels and cuts apples into a long spiral last year which makes processing the amount we get given much easier. The very long spiral gets cut across the middle and you get half apple slices which dry very well and are lovely as a snack just as they are. It's amazing how much of the produce is liquid though, you process for hours and seem to only get a small jar of dehydrated for your work.....worth it though!

I've just had a look at dehydrators on Amzn - I don't think I'd go for the real cheapies but it's something worth considering getting. I shall have to do some more online surveys and get more vouchers! :D

Starting to see blackberries just beginning to ripen on the dogwalking route so I shall have to start putting a plastic box in the scooter basket when I take my canine guests out. ;)

I'm on blackberry overload need to get dehydrator, just have to decide on best one to buy
Prices vary so much but think I will go with MrsLurcherwalker's suggestion of an Excalibur, 5 or 9 tray. Need to find best price.

I have been walking in a very wet Derbyshire today and the blackberries are weeks behind the ones here in Nottingham, some of the brambles have just started to flower.:)

I think the Excalibur dehydrators are a tad beyond my purse, but I did find this one on Amzn, and am now prevaricating. I have nearly enough vouchers to cover it just £8 short.

Hmmm - what to do?

Wondered if you have bought LW, and if so what are your thoughts?

I know nothing about dehydrators and don't want to buy cheap and have something that doesn't do a good job or won't last.

  • We've had blackberries for a while now in London; everything has been early due to the dry spring and early summer.

I had my first attempt at jam (blackberry and apple) which is rather solid, but fine in tarts.

Going to try and make jelly as described. Are "allspice berries" available in the herb/spice aisle of supermarkets?

My fella has been making blackberry vodka; he does it without sugar meaning it's quite tart but goes well with regular lemonade.

I've flavoured vodka with my raspberry glut, using sugar.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!
