Any help would be appreciated if possible please. I only know about iPad as that's all I've had but DIL who lives abroad has been told a Tesco tablet is good and has asked me to have a look! Hence I'm asking for your valuable help! Many thanks. :)

In a nutshell the answer is no, you will get what you pay for buy cheap get cheap. That said what do you want from a tablet? if it's just surfing, emails basic stuff well then a cheap tablet will suffice. I have never owned a Tesco's Hudl but I have played with them on the display in my local.

Dont think Tesco make the Hudl anymore.

But a good Android tablet such as Android Samsung, Lenovo etc are good and I would rather have than an Ipad which is part of the Apple eco system

    Depends on your budget

But the very cheap end of the market can be frustrating to use

As others have said, no such thing - there was a Hudl, and a Hudl 2, then they stopped making them. They were both budget Android tablets though, so no match for an iPad. You need to decide on iOS or Android, and a budget, and screen size, then we can help with finding something suitable.

There were Connect tablets which were Windows tablets with (IIRC) Tesco branding, and they do still seem to be selling them, although it looks like it's less of a direct link now.

Not saying I'd recommend them though- Windows on a tablet is a bit of an acquired taste...

Tesco sold me a Phantom Hipstreet as a replacement Hudl and it's been fine. A bigger screen and it does everything I did on the Hudl and more. It's been just under a year with no problems. It was about £70 I think.

I got a refurbed one of these for 40 quid a couple of months ago - it's perfectly fine running Win10 and for use on basic day to day stuff.

The battery life is not all that special, but you can run it off a power-pack when the battery starts to get low.

They are made by/branded (Sirallen Sugar's) Viglen, btw

The one I have (which is older but similar specs) is quite usable for basic tasks such as browsing.

The one I had (which came with Windows 8.1) has no branding on the box that I can make out, just 'Connect'. I'm guessing the Viglen branding came later.

We've had both an iPad (mini 3rd gen) and a Hudl (original) in our househould. Given that one cost £400 and the other about £75, you really can't expect similar quality or performance. The iPad works well, it is responsive and feels nice to hold and use. The Hudl feels cheap and slow in comparison to the iPad, and the screen is not as large, bright or clear. Having said that, the Hudl still does what it is meant to do and is actually just 'fine' to use (fine meaning neither amazing or terrible). You get what you pay for. As others have said, the Hudl is no longer sold new - but if you really do want a Hudl, you can pick up them up for £30 / £35 used. Having said that, you can also pick up much better 7" Android tablets on the used market for a similar price. Personally, I would not go for a Hudl again.
