My son got a Monzo card as recommended by MSE for his holiday, He used it in Abu Dhabi, Australia and New Zealand and has used it at home snce his return. He cannot praise it enough and he recommends it to everybody.0

I took one out to trial it in the UK before a recent cruise to Germany - worked without any problem before, during and after.
In Germany it defaulted to debiting funds in Euros each time, with one exception, and that clearly offered the option to settle in GBP (to be avoided) or Euro.
If you have "a debit card from hell" it's a great way to circumvent fees for currency withdrawals at ATMs abroad - simply transfer funds in Sterling from your nasty card to the Monzo and use the latter to take cash out.
I also loved the way each transaction was flagged up (with basic details) on myiPad within seconds of it going through.
