If you took a named qualification with the OU, you are not able to be offered a general degree at 300 credits, only the degree with Honours at 360. Additionally, if you study a named degree across two disciplines, (like mine was English Language and Literature but they fell under two separate faculties) you cannot claim a CertHE or DipHE either. I found this out fairly recently that some courses have daft loopholes like this although that may go in your favour. This is what the Support people at the OU told me but whether or not it's true I've no idea- I would hope so!
If you take an Open degree, you can claim at 300 and will be offered. You do not have to accept.

Hey, thanks for you reply - that is what I was told too, but the above quote (post #10) appears to say that you will be treated as having previous study if you have done enough credit to earn a qualification, whether or not you claim it.

    Anybody? :o
  • Why not ask the OU if they will automatically grant a lower level qualification if, eg Cert HE, if you reach the required level, or wait till you claim it? Better to be safe than sorry when you do eventually make your application to SFE.

They don't automatically grant the qualification, but my worry is that you don't need to be granted the qualification to fall foul of the rules. Section 5.15 appears to say that being entitled to a qualification (whether you're granted it or not) means SFE consider you to have 'previous study'. But nobody has been able to confirm that... so I'm pretty confused.
