How are London prices relevant to someone buying in Durham?

Drops in London grab headlines, skew averages down and affect sentiment everywhere because people see falling prices not rising prices being trumpeted in the media, and also the London bubble has allowed people from London to buy at pumped up prices in other parts of the country making it harder for local people to afford a home.

    House is freehold.

Update - I called the EA this afternoon to confirm the viewing time and used the opportunity to ask what the vendor's position is. He was in the middle of telling me that "they are actively searching for a property" only to be interrupted by someone in the background who piped up and informed him they have found a house to buy. This is really good news as it shows they need a sale fairly swiftly. I asked if there had been any offers yet and he said no - but there has been quite a bit of interest over the past couple of weeks. This doesn't surprise me as there are many others in the same position as me looking for a house to buy. There are literally none in my area at the moment bar this one.

    Viewing tonight, wish me luck.

    How did you get on?
  • So just to update...

I offered 160 which was immediately rejected. I went up to 165 but again this was rejected so I walked away. Fast forward to last week when I finally had an offer accepted on a house in the area I want. This one does need work doing to get it how I want but it's a relief to have found somewhere as my buyers are understandably starting to question how long this process is taking. The day after my offer on that property was accepted, I got a call regarding the other house I offered 165 for, asking if my offer was still on the table as the vendor would now accept. Apparently they have had further viewings and offers but all have been from people in big chains and they want to complete asap. I have since emailed back to say my offer is now 160 and take it or leave it. This house doesn't need anything doing to it and has a few things the other one doesn't like a downstairs loo, garage, ensuite etc. Waiting for a reply now.

They have wasted your time by being deluded sellers, tell them it is 150k or nothing IMO.
