Where is it getting hot? If the body of the pump, the part that is actually pumping water, is getting hot, I would say that is normal but if it is the motor, probably not so. However, you really need to find out the temperature not just "it burns if I hold my hand on it for more than a few seconds". If you can find the part number as suggested in post 11 # you can then look at the operating guide and compare it to the actual temperature.

The other possibility is just that the bearings on the pump are worn out, and as a result it overheats and seizes. In which case you'd need a new pump.

Pumps can get quite warm in use, especially of it's hot water going through them, so it may be hard to tell.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Look on the data plate it's prob not continuously rated, it may well say 5 mins on 30 mins off

I'll let you know after I've had a shower. It may be some time.
Right, having spent a couple of days getting dirty I've now had a shower & can report that the pump does not get particularly hot. Sounds like you may need a new pump.
