Large invoice for rental property after moving out, are parents liable?

Hi All, long time lurker mostly but just hoping for some help, recently moved out of a property I lived in with my parents in April. At the time they asked them to redecorate which I didn't think we needed to do as they had no pictures of move in ( it was in a terrible state but I appreciate is our word against there's) so we did redocorate however they are now trying to invoice us for £1700 for redecoration of 3 rooms they have re-done and a few structural issue to the shed and house.

Am I right in thinking that even if we are liable for redecorating it should be a percentage of the cost and not the full amount due to time we spend in the property (10 years) otherwise I thought would be betterment, also that we shouldn't be liable for any structural issues being the rotting word on shed door and a pipe that burst literally few weeks before we moved out.

I thought I had a basic understanding but would appreciate any advice and apologies if left out any key details but let me know and can advise.

Kind regards,
Aaron

What does the rental contract say; would you have been responsible for fixing a burst pipe, if you were still living there?
Did you inform the landlord? Are they blaming you for it bursting, it wasn't due to frost, what caused it to burst?

What does/did the check in inventory say regarding the condition? Exact words and photos please.

Did the tenant(s) act in a 'tenant-like manner' by properly reporting the repairing issues promptly eg the rotting wood and burst pipe.

yes betterment is clearly relevant after 10 years.
