Birmingham Midshires are wholly owned by HBOS, the Halifax group. (or were the last time I looked)
They are as good as any other sub-prime or near prime lender depending on the deal and your status. There are much much worse.
I am a former Broker, former IFA and former compliance officer, for my sins.

However, I have since seen the light.
  • Processing-wise they are fantastic - one of the most efficient lenders we deal with. And as petermb states above, they are apart of the HBOS group, the largest mortgage lender in the country. They did have some issues with their direct sales force, as highlighted by the completely impartial BBC, but they are as strong a lender as you could find

  • BM Solutions, or Birmingham Midshires rank very highly when it comes to customer service, also their products tend to be fairly competitive, particularly when you have a broker acting on your behalf as they issue a number of their best deals exclusively through brokers.

  • My first mortgage was with Birmingham and Bridgewater - now Birmingham Midshires.

When I came to re-mortgage they offered very little. After 18 years or so and never missing a payment I was disappointed. Britannia, so far, have been great.

    Your choice.

I agree Gorgeous George. I am with the B'ham Midshires and I have found that they have no interest in customer retention. They make no effort to keep you so I'll be switching my mortgage to someone else the first chance I get. I read somewhere else that they have no interest in keeping your business and are only interested in new business.

Never had any problems with them, and they are normally very efficient on the processing side.

Just curious as to why they were your best option - do you have some adverse credit history?

This is not that rare in this market really so it would be unfair to say BM are no good because of this. You cant have it all your way. It was not that long ago you had to go on the SVR and like it or lump it! They are there to make money not save yours, this is why you can remortgage.

BM are very good at what they do. Service is very good, they credit score softly on AIPs and have a good call centre. (for brokers anyway)

    Hi,

I had adverse credit an to that affect could not get a mortgage with lloyds or you guessed it halifax. Hang on a sec but managed to get a mortgage offer with birmingham midshires. So to that end they are better than most. The only down point i could say about it was that our first house is a new build and it took 6 months and 5 days to finish the build. Unfortunately the mortgage offer was for 6 months and they wouldn't extend it even the 5 days for completion. This meant i had to take out a new product which worked out to be 6 months shorter in length and a quarter percent more on interest. The other good point was that they only took out one inital payment rather than two and it was a month after we moved into the house (hooray). The only problem now is that in march the deal ends and from what others have said they are particular good for current customers. Can anybody recommend any other mortgage companies who also are pretty good about previous adverse credit ratings.

What was the previous adverse credit you had on your file?

It may be that you now do not have to look at adverse deals, and you might be able to look at high street rates, if your credit file has improved enough

  • We're with BM and although we have a chequered credit history we found them fair and honest we got a good rate with them and if our rating isnt better by the time we buy a bigger house we will happily take another mortgage with them.

or if my luck changed the halifax!
