Passport nearing expiry

I live in the UK but hold a British Islands: Isle of Man passport which expires on 19 Feb 2018.
We're travelling to Italy in October and probably Amsterdam in December. Do I need to renew it now or will it still be valid? (ie do you need 6 months on it?)
I know it's on the FCO part of gov.uk but can't find it.
Thanks

I'd get it done now, whatever the legal advice.0

Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you do not need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this.

No, you don't need to, your passport is valid within the EU until the day it expires.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Thank you lammy.
I had actually found those two links but I'd misunderstood the bit about not needing any "additional period of validity". I understand now.0 -
You dont need to, but you get up to months added on anyway so as you are within 9 months, no harm in replacing it0

I collected a passport, 24 hours before my train left St Pancras ; I wouldn't want to be trying to get back after some emergency, with only 24 hours left.0

As above, you can travel homewards on an expired passport, even one with '24 hours' left. In fact as a passport is not required for travel within the EU, it's only because the UK was too paranoid to have ID cards that we need one, no other EU members need to take their passports with them when travelling within the bloc, you could still use an expired passport to leave the UK if the airlines/ferries would let you.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Thanks for the reassurances about returning, I didn't know that.0
