I pulled a black and sooty 13A fuse out of an extension lead yesterday. It's only ever been used for low-power stuff like hifi but over 35 years it must have got hot at some point.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Any fuse running at its rated current reaches 1085 degrees (the melting point of copper), that's how it works.
A fuse should carry its rated current indefinately. A 13A mains plug fuse can pass 25A for about 30 minutes before it blows.
