CCJ problem

Hi can anyone please advise me on a CCJ problem. I went to court last week after filing an N244 to set aside. The judge granted to set aside as I never received it through the post as I had moved. He has given me 2 weeks to file a defence but said I should try and settle the matter out of court with the person concerned. What I need to know is if I do that do I a) still need to file a defence and btw how do you do this? b) how do I make sure that the judgement that's currently set aside remains off my file? And that the matter is finished with once and for all. I have tried calling solicitors they are not willing to advise or help unless money is involved and as it's for £1230 it's not worth getting a solicitor and CAB are absolutely rubbish they say they have no one that can advise me legally. Time is getting on it's nearly a week since I went to court. I spoke to the man who put this CCJ on me his willing to accept an out of court settlement but what shall i do to protect myself and make sure he Dosent pursue this any further? Also what happens if he accepts less than the £1230 which he says he will do? Many thanks for any advice!

A: Not for now as the claim is gone. The claimant can re-file the claim, upon which you'll need a defence.
B: You don't. The CCJ does not exist, therefore is not on your files.
If you're willing to settle the matter with the claimant, do so. The only way a CCJ can appear on your reports now is if you don't come to a settlement and they get a new CCJ against you.
Is this a claim regarding a credit account that's on your credit file, or a civil claim from a landlord or similar? If the latter, it wont be on your credit files anyway, but if it is on your credit files, any defaults or debts will show as "Partially settled2 on your credit files if you come to a lower F&F payment.
