I've just returned from a very brief trip to Belfast and have to say that it's a great destination. It's small enough to get around on foot and has a lot going for it.
The worlds most popular tourist attraction is the Titanic Experience which does earn that title.
There's a very good free walking tour Daily which lasts around 2 hours. The guide then sold us a tour of the Falls & Shankhill Roads. We started on the Falls with a former IRA prisoner and 90 minutes later he handed us over to an ex-UVF member who told the story from his perspective. Five hours of walking around the city took its toll on my back but it was worth it.
We finished off this morning with a tour of the Crumlin Road Gaol.
Add to this the great lively bars and excellent restaurants and it makes for a Terrific destination. Sadly there aren't enough hotels to go around and the prices reflect this.
A long weekend wasn't really enough for Belfast and that's before possibilities such as Derry and the Giants Causeway are considered.
I think, though, that my best memory of the area is the huge sense of positivity that the city exudes.
