How to cancel BT!!

I need advice on cancelling my tv and wi-fi package with BT. My contract ends on 24th Aug 17. I phoned them up today and I spoke to 3 people who all gave me different advice. I was under the impression that you need to give 30 days notice to cancel. (I think 30 days notice is tomorrow.) One of them told me you can't put in a request to cancel till your contract is over, eg 24 Aug 17. Surely this isn't right because it's only a 12 month contract. Just curious and slightly frustrated.. if i have a 12 month contract and it ends on the 24th Aug then when can i ring up to cancel please?
I no longer work for Natwest, I left in 2012. But i can't change my name..

Your contract doesn't automatocally end in August, the minimum term expires, if your phoneline and broadband both had a 12 month minimum term and that expires on 24th August, and you have to give 30 days notice, then the earliest you can quit without early termination charges should be around the 24th July, personally I would add at least 1 or 2 days 'grace' and give notice on the 26th ish.
If you are just quitting, rather that migrating service to another provider, you will probably also be liable for a broadband cease charge of around £30

If you are transferring, don't talk to BT, new provider does everything. Apply to a new provider around the 10th August, normally takes about 2 weeks for them to transfer, by which time your BT contract will be complete.
iniltous is quite correct with regard to quitting and not moving to another provider.

Under a 'gaining provider led process', your new provider will arrange the transfer for you.
You only need to contact the provider you wish to switch to, who will notify your old provider of the intended transfer - you do not need to cancel your contract with your old provider.
If you change your mind, you must contact your new provider to cancel your request to switch.
Once you have contacted your new provider to begin the switching process, both your new provider and the provider you're leaving must both send you a notification letter to inform you of the switch.
The letter from the provider you are leaving must include details of:
    • the services which are affected,
    • the services which are unaffected, and
    • any applicable early termination charges that relate to the services you currently take.
The letters from the provider you are leaving and your new provider must also give details of the switch, including a reasonable estimate of the date it will happen.
