Return - Free Postage

I have just had a request to return an item which was sold with Free Postage.

So contacted ebay to find out if the reason stated was valid. I have been advised by ebay to wait until the case is escalated then they can intervene, but somehow I'm not sure, since it's the buyer that would escalate and not me - the seller.

No problem with accepting the return, it's the return postage that is in dispute.

Advice anyone?

You have to refund the total price they pay if you accept a return. You can't keep your postage cost regardless of whether you charged them postage or it was free postage.


What is the reason they have given to return? If it is not as described and the buyer escalates, then you run the risk of Ebay refunding from your PayPal account without them returning the item.

Re-reading your post if you are talking about the postage cost to return. It depends on why they are returning. If they have changed their mind then they have to pay. If they are claiming the item is not as described then you are responsible for paying return postage. Ebay should be able to provide a label and charge you. The return postage cost makes no difference to whether you charged them postage or it was free postage

Yes, thank you. I am just talking about the return postage.

Reason given is "The photo suggested a darker background" so therefore was lighter than expected.

I gave the description as a grey mix, which was on the label.

Really?

Some buyers really do take the biscuit!

Unless the item was a fortune why can't they just take their lumps and move on!

If they have opened a case it will tell you who pays, but it sounds like it's SNAD (according to the buyer) which means the seller pays the return postage.

If you want to challenge it, you need to provide information in the case to evidence your claim and take a chance that eBay will rule in your favour. If they don't you get a defect and it is likely the buyer will keep the item and their money.

Unless it's very expensive postage, send them a MyHermes label and don't waste your life agonising about it. Yes, it's infuriating (very!), but is it really worth all the anguish if the sum involved is a few pounds?

Also if they do not return it within the timelimit, phone eBay & have the case closed in your favour
