Nursery decoration

Options
Hi there. I had a quote from a tradesman for decorating the nursery as well as the woodwork in the landing. Originally he quoted £350 and 2 days before seeing the job and went up to £500 and 3 days when viewing (this was based on him doing it by himself)

I hired the guy who turned up today to start the job and he has someone with him so won't take as long. They got the job done in half a day.

Is it fair that they still want to charge £500?

    No

    1 man x 3 days = £500
    2 men x 0.5 days* = 1 day = £165?

Sorry, misread totally: I thought you said one and a half days.

    * The unfortunate thing is most tradesmen charge either by the job or the full day so it's unlikely he'll accept 1 day total, your mos tlikley successful route is 2 days = £350

If it had taken them 5 days would you have happily paid £900?

I assume you got the job done to the standard you wanted? if so pay the price you agreed.

You aren't paying for time. he's given you a fixed fee.

If he had taken 5 days, would you have been happy to pay the extra?
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

It depends on if he did what he quoted.

In one day I suspect he did not give a second coat to the walls. Did he put two coats on the woodwork??

It does sometimes matter if he gets if done in one day instead of two if he is making and you are losing.
