I bought a Brother sewing machine for £70 a few months ago. I turned up my curtains and replaced the lining with blackout fabric. I had no issues with the fabric bring too thick.

would you mind telling me what model that was please?

Ikea do a sewing machine for about 45.

I have a BSA from the fifties rescued from a skip, does straight stitch only and will sew through anything. Also have two french singers that do zig zag and variations therof and will sew through anything, again, one rescued from a skip and one bought secondhand on ebay.
