I understand about making a commitment but we have paid £170 out of total £240 before she has even finished her current year group. If a substantial trip is to take place in a year group then surely common sense would mean not to book it so soon at the start of a school year and thus give parents a chance to make instalments - we weren't to know a place was going to come up.

The schooling decision is not about the money, BUT we know at her new school there is also a residential trip in her year group so cannot afford to throw nearly £200 away and then be asked to pay the same at new school.

I don't think that's very practical. Schools wouldn't want all school visits bunching up towards the end of the year for all sorts of reasons like school exams and cheaper deals on the visits off season. Most parents want maximum time to pay and plan ahead. I'd say you're relatively unusual in moving your child at this point in her school career. I'm sure they weren't anticipating that when they made the plans.

Presumably you're choosing to have her move schools?

Hopefully you'll end up just losing the deposit, however, why did you make such a financial commitment to school A knowing you were in talks with school B?

I suppose it could be a "managed move" where rather than being permanently excluded a child is transferred to another school when a space is available.

More than likely it will be the OP who opted for the move though, so paying for a school trip was a gamble.

I wonder whether she could still go on the trip?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
