Florence in October

Hi all - first time poster on this board.

Mrs Manxman and I are looking at going to Florence for 5 days in October.

Any suggestions on what to do and what not to miss? (including the obvious like the Uffizi (spelling?))

You have enough time to do a day trip to Luca, San Gimignano or Siena.

Book online to see David to avoid queuing.

Book the Uffizi online to avoid 4 hour queues.
The two Botticellis are worth the entrance fee alone.

If you are there on a Sunday many museums etc are free entry but the queues are long. Try the Pitti Palace only 20 to 30 min queues and really fabulous.

The 'free' walking tour is great - tip based, take the Medici tour, excellent.

The statues in the Piazza della Signoria should not be missed, include a copy of David.

Agree that a day trip to Luca, San Gimignano or Siena is unmissable.
Each place will take a day however.
The trains are fast and easy, not sure San Gimignano can be reached by train though??

    Not far to drive.

    Don't miss the bistecca fiorentina.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Florence has such a lot to offer I'd concentrate on that city alone.
Get a bus to the Piazzale Michaelangelo then walk back , wonderful views and amazing gardens ( have to check what's open) towards santa spirito

Free opera at the church and great gelati

San Marco with Fra Angelico's frescos, the duomo, Santa Croce and the Pitti palace and Boboli gardens across the river are all well worth visiting. There are lots of other places too - it's not hard to find things to look at in Florence!
