sysdata.xml error - registry cleaner needed

OHs PC (windows 7 pro about 2 years old) has started shutting down at random with the BSOD. It generates a WER.......sysdata.xml error and a mini dump. However it refuses to open the mini dump and sfc scannow does not appear to work. Searching on the web for solutions has not generated anything useful as there appear to be a variety of reasons which might cause this.
He has been consistently running Norton from Day 1 and doubts it is a virus. He does have some applications which are specific to his work and written for that purpose (not by him) and my opinion is that one of these is a bit flaky and has probably corrupted the registry. ( I am running win 7 Pro on an older machine with no problems but I do not have any sector specific apps written by "amateurs".)
OH is not technical and wants a reasonable easy to use solution so we are thinking of trying a Registry cleaner as next step. Anyone able to recommend a good one?

I'm not sure why you think a registry cleaner would assist you.
If one of his applications is flaky and has "corrupted the registry" (his guess), then a registry cleaner could do harm without doing any good.
Could you give further information about the text which the BSOD shows, please? This would enable better investigation of the problem...0 -
Basically
Minidump number and WER number change each time it happens
C:\Windows\Minidump\041413-5974-01.dmp
C:\Users\[hisusername]\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-23571-0.sysdata.xml0 -
There is no such thing as a good registry cleaner
The registry is not designed to be "cleaned" or meddled with in this manner.
Start by running malwarebytes and adw cleaner and let us know how you go .

Also, i would seriously consider removing Norton and all its tendrils that infest your machine0 -

Meanwhile I have managed to open the minidump which says
Problem Event Name Blue Screen
OS 6.1.7601.2.1.0 256.48
Local id 2058
Additional info
Bccode 1a
BCP1 0000000000000000000041790
BCP2 FFFFA80013D1ABS0
BCP3 000000000000000FFF
BCP4 000000
OS ver 6_1_7601
Service Pack 1_0
Product 256_1
Also, and I think this may be significant, just before the BSOD appears, the screen breaks up (you can only just catch it it is so fast) and the message "No video input alert" appears.
So, as I understand it this could be a RAM or a power supply issue or even, as it is happening so often, a memory board issue.
The OS (win 7 pro) is valid and came preinstalled. It has a Certificate of Authority. Is it possible to install a new mother board and not have to reinstall the OS from CD which I do not have one?. As it is Windows 7 I assume it may no longer be downloadable from MS. It does need to be Windows 7 as OH has some software which he needs for his business and the ("one man" developer does not yet have a fully tested version forWin 10.0 -
Sounds like ram, if it has two or more sticks of ram , first make sure they are seated properly, if it stlll bsod's remove one and check, if ok replace it. If not put that one back and remove the other, repeat.

Memory corruption is the most probable cause. Run memtest86 from a USB to test the RAM on the system. May be one of the sticks is bad.0
