Issue with employer

All,

I am one of the manager part of a relatively small company.
There are extreme amount of politics ongoing with group of people forming a club.

I know there is always politics at work but here it is dirty politics with group of people working together and if you are not part of them then excluded from the management

In another way they go a long way to defame you and make your efforts unseen if they don't like you

I have noticed i am excluded from management team with no obvious reason.

My feeling is shared amongst other people, do you think it is time to get out?

How would you handle knowing you are excluded from management meetings?

If you have never been invited to management meetings, perhaps that is because you are not considered senior enough - just being a manager isn't enough to say that you should be invited. But really, there isn't a lot of information here to go on - we have no idea of the context or what you mean by "defaming" you.

If I wasn't senior enough to attend whatever management meetings, then I'd breathe a sigh of relief and get on with my job - there's always more than enough meetings to go to.

A bit of background is, i am not too concerned for been excluded but the fact that things happen secratively is my concern

I have an issue where people have a club and unless you can get on with them they defame you .

I care for everyone and not two faced where as that group consists of two faced people that suck up and force people below them

I can't work with such people

Then move, that's what I'd do.

I have some flexibility re remote working etc which is why i am still here

I really wanted to know what other people do or think so to ensure i am not unique in my way of approaching this

You haven't told us anything, so how would we know what we would do?

The bottom line is that if you don't like your job, whatever the reason, leave. But whether we think it is them or you - well we can't say without information. Your perceptions could be right or wrong.
  • Another for move on. Life is to short.
I've experienced 'groups and all this in crowd rubbish' don't know that I could change it - it wasn't really until my last few day's I realised actually they all had a problem with each other. Good grief they would all sooner stitch each up for what. Sorry if this hasn't come across brilliantly.

There was a group photo - 2 of 12 people remain 5 months on.

What things happen secretively? Are they things that are included in your remit or affect your work, or are you just feeling left out because other people know things that you don't?

What does defaming you actually mean?

To be honest, your description of a group of "two faced people that such up and force people below them" doesn't sound either managerial or professional on your side. But if that is really how you feel then it would imply working relationships have got to the point where they're not fixable without a lot of effort. If it's an effort you can't/won't make, then move on.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

It is when people exclude me from conversations when I should be included and make such decisions

With greatest respects for all, some of the managers have no degree and probably colleague dropout but do know how to suck up

I know this is not professional but it is reallity of what i have seen

What's the strategy if you move and the same issue develops. You may need to become more robust and learn to play the politics game to your advantage, don't allow yourself to be sidelined/ undermined.

If it's really worth fighting for, and if winning is realistically likely, stay and fight it, but I doubt anywhere is worth it.

Otherwise, you will never win with this ilk and your working life will be miserable. One style of bullying is to form a clique. The clique members are either there because they know full well what's going on and are scared to say anything, or because they are so naive they're oblivious and just think the bully likes them. If management doesn't recognise and deal with this, it's toxic and becomes part of company culture. Ironically, the top managers even think they have a happy team because they don't realise the sinister nature of the clique.

If you are in a financial position to be able to get out, do so. Leave them to rot in their own self-inflicted mess and find yourself some good colleagues instead.
