OVO Energy Fictitious Bills

Options
Has anyone had, or know anyone that's had, problems with getting fictitious bills from OVO energy? I moved into a new property at the back end of April and since then have been receiving numerous bills and final demands from OVO to either the 'occupier' or a name similar to, but not mine... the outstanding amounts differ on each.

On querying this with OVO, they stated that someone had instigated an energy account with OVO and they had supplied energy to my property during May. They will not state under whose authorisation nor the account name. They have stated that the debt has since been 'written off' and I managed to get them to send a letter 'to the occupier' stating this fact, but I'm still receiving demands in the other name and I have concerns that somewhere along the line this could affect my credit rating. I've spoken to them again and they said they will get their collection team to stop sending letters but was just curious if anyone else had heard of a similar problem.

Hi - welcome to the forum. I assume that you contacted Ovo when you moved into the property with a meter reading? Remember, you are liable for charges from the date of ownership or the start of the tenancy, not the day that you moved in.

  • Thanks for the reply - no, I didn't contact OVO when I moved in as OVO weren't supplying energy at the property, it was EON; that's what makes it especially weird.

So you contacted E.oN. You have absolutely nothing to worry about. This is one for Ovo to sort out. It will not affect your credit rating: it would seem that Ovo are on a fishing exercise.

  • That's right - I contacted EON with the meter readings when I moved in, then switched to EDF, Ovo have never been in the mix. My initial thoughts were that they were fishing and I ignored everything at first but it becomes a bit unsettling when you receive letter after letter threatening debt collection and the likes. Thanks for you help and the reassurance that my credit rating should be unaffected.

Return to Sender would be my advice.
