Looking at a fortnight in Lyon maybe Grenoble and the locality in late August early September.
The missus says Lyon is a World Heritage site.
Any tips to see things to do etc.
Probably hire a car for a week or so to tour the foothills of the Alps.

We have a couple of days here right now....veeery hot! Old Lyon is beautiful and we've spent most time here (we are staying in an ancient attic up a steep street in the area!)
Some fascinating traboules (alleys IN buildings between streets) - http://www.lyontraboules.net/saint_jean.php.
Bit too hot, imho, but old Lyon is fab!
Cafe Vert for a fab meal (vegan, although we only have one vegetarian in our group, we all loved the food).
https://bucketlistjourney.net/one-bucket-list-worthy-day-lyon-france gave us some ideasPlan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0
