Iv'e replaced my old Dyson (used very hard for 8 + yrs) with the new lightweight slimline Dyson - £203 @ Amazon.

it's really easy to use as it has ball so you can swerve it into tight corners. excellent suction and pick up - we have 2 dogs, and 3 cats and kids with mild asthma.

I don't have aproblem with Dyson build quality if you treat them decently. Much better than a Henry, which was useless for picking up pet fur.

I bought a Dyson cylinder for upstairs but very disappointed with it, plus it doesn't wrap around for storage neatly either.

Can only say that I haven't had a minute's trouble with my eight year old Dyson. I am ukjoel with three dogs - springer, lab & rottador - too.

When a product sells in the quantity of a Dyson, there are always good & bad experiences

I've got exactly the same problem, I've tried Dysons and they were nowhere near as good as my Miele, I've used a Henry at work and wasn't that impressed, but I didn't get to see how it coped with dog hairs.

I might look at the servicing option, because my Miele is also about 8 years old, and maybe it is worn out (I've had one new turbo head already) but it's the best vacuum I've ever had!
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.

I'm a huge Henry fan. I've got 2 and one of them is 20 years old and still going.

We also have a dog and 2 cats and are very pleased with performance.

I did have a Dyson, it was rubbish, forever breaking. Also, I could not bring myself to line the pockets of Mr Dyson.;)

Pboae - don't know if this applies to you but I noticed the suction problem happened the minute I started using the cheaper paper bags. Didn't think anything of it at the time (silly I know) but the bag was very difficult to push into the slots even though when I started to use it the dust and dirt was going into the right place i.e. the bag. Anyway having nearly bought a new vacuum on the internet on Friday night (chickened out at the last minute and thought I'd possibly go down the servicing route) today I was using it again and decided as a last resort to replace the bag even though it wasn't even half full.

Seem to have just saved myself a fortune as it seems to have found a new lease of life i.e. the suction is as it should be again!! BUT when I went to get one of the tools out of it they were all boiling hot and the casing was also very hot. So now I'm wondering if my money saving of all of about £1.50 on the bags could (nearly) have been a very expensive mistake.

Off tomorrow to buy genuine Miele bags again before it goes into meltdown!

I used to use the generic bags, but last time I had to replace the turbo head the guy in the store told me off and said to only use proper ones in future. Since then I have stuck to the proper Miele ones and I can definitely see the difference.

I have taken my turbohead apart this weekend as well (completley unscrewed it, not just the removable panel). Given it a good clean and some WD40 and that has helped a lot as well, so maybe if I get the whole thing serviced it will have a similar effect.
