Zanussi electric tripping fuse box.

Hi,

Would be grateful for a little advice.

We have an Zanussi electric cooker, typical fan assisted oven, 4 rings which we got about four years ago.

Initially when we got it and switched it on it tripped the cooker fuse in the fuse box, not sure if accompanied by a sound or not.
Switched on and worked perfectly afterwards, The electrician who did it for me (who seems to know his stuff) was a bit surprised as he said he could find nothing wrong with the wiring etc.

Fast forward to today and while cooking the dinner using grill and a few rings all of a sudden there is a crack and cooker goes off tripping fuse again. As I was at cooker at the time I thought I saw one of the rings that wasn't on turn red, but I could well be mistaken.

Anyway after resetting the trip switch everything on cooker seems to be working fine.

1 As we were cooking peppered steaks on grill at time, which seem to give off quite a strong fume, is it possible that caused it (by setting up some sort of a vapour current between meat and grill element) or the fact that one of the saucepans had virtually boiled dry on one of the rings?

2 With a problem like this that doesn't happen very often and is hard to pin down, probably more worried that the actual exterior of cooker could become live itself. Is this something that could happen?

Grateful for any advice,
Many thanks.

What power is the cooker in Kw? What size fuse is the Cooker Fuse in the Fuse Box? Is it a dedicated fuse just for the cooker? Is the cooker hard wired in to a SSO (Switched Socket Outlet) or is it plugged in?

    Thanks for reply.

Not too sure about the Kw of the cooker will try and find out, yes the cooker has its own trip switch in fuse box, and not is not plugged in, is hard wired to its own socket.

So generally is it unlikely that exterior surface of cooker could become live if worse was to happen? Its one of these cookers that has glass (ceramic covering) over rings

    Thanks.

Your cooker should have adequate Earth protection to stop the whole thing being live. But then it shouldn't be tripping the circuit breaker! Be thankful the the circuit breaker is working! Best get it checked by an electrician or replaced.
