I have noticed that buying my gas from EDF and my electricity from British Gas would be much cheaper than buying both from one supplier. Can you buy buy gas from the electricity company without buying the electricity and vice versa

  • Yes, of course, whatever's cheaper.

    I'm confused.

Surely if you have been quoted, the option is available to you?

Consult a comparison site to find the best deals for you, checking seperate suppliers per fuel as you have already discovered can be a lower cost option.

    Good luck!

British Gas started life as a Gas company, the clue's in the name, but that's only a legacy brand now so don't read anything into it.

But to answer your question, you can buy gas and electricity from any suitable company with appropriate licences, just use a comparison site to find your cheapest.

The market changes every once in a while and at the moment it's often cheaper to have one supplier for gas and another for electricity. A few years ago it was cheaper to have duel-fuel - one supplier for both utilities. That will become the case again in due-course.

I don't think that EDF permit gas only contracts.
Small print & Just another complication in achieving a best deal!
