National Trust Life Membership

Around a year ago I compared all conservation organisations I could find in an attempt to identify the least expensive method of obtaining life membership of the UK National Trust, either as individual or joint membership.
Unsurprisingly, the best method seemed to be obtaining overseas life membership of Heritage New Zealand. However, they seem to have stopped offering this type of membership to anyone who doesn't (at least temporarily) live in New Zealand.
Does anyone know of a good alternative for someone living in the UK (mainland)?
Note:
- Having searched these forums, I cannot see a recent thread on the topic of life membership.
- The purpose of this thread is to legally save money, not to trigger a debate on moral philosophy.
