Hi bushcaro,
I’m Simon Joseph, eCommerce Director at eXpansys. Please be assured that this request for information relating to your payment method is both typical and secure and is simply part of the information gathering process that we use depending on the nature of the transaction. As a business eXpansys is fully compliant with all requirements from our banking and payment provider partners.
As a global organisation eXpansys transacts with customers in over 50 countries which heightens our exposure to the risk of fraud. We have therefore implemented such processes to protect both our customers and our own position. eXpansys now manage this so effectively that our payment provider use us as a ‘best practise’ example to other ecommerce companies. It is worth noting that our strong position on transaction security which we have developed over many years is also win-win for both customers and eXpansys because the low incidence of fraud enables us to ensure our prices remain competitive.
I hope I have assured you of our best intentions however if you are still concerned then please contact your credit card company to confirm the validity of this process or one of our customer service team on 0161 868 0868.
Many thanks,
Simon0 -
Still sounds dodgy - what do they want a copy of your spending, payment habits and credit limits for? because that's all the extra info a credit card statement would have for them - all other info is available from normal sources eg. home address etc. - it's probably worth asking Expansys what they want it for and what extra protection it gives you - or perhaps 'Simon Joseph' from Expansys would care to explain - in this day and age when identity theft is on the increase, i can only see dangers in passing on valuable information such as spending during the month (something that is often asked in an identity check by credit card companies - 'Can you tell me the last transaction you made?' etc. etc.)0

Weel it could be genuine and one reason they want it is to prove you are in fact the cardholder.
If you still want to do business with them then I would call your credit card company and check with them if it's OK to do this. At least that way you will be covered if anything goes wrong.
If you are feeling cautios then write down the name of the person you speak to, their extension number, date and time.0 -
Lol, at the e-commerce director chasing one sale on a forum.0

I would second that - stock management is a shambles - stuff that was due in 1 day suddenly becomes 10 after you have ordered, that kind of thing.
There are cheaper (except when the september paypal promotion was on for some items) and certainly way better better (from a customer service perspective) companies out there ...0 -

Agreed - I cannot think of a single justification for demanding a credit card statement to be sent through the post.0 -

If it's typical, then why has no one on this forum ever heard of such a practice? and anyone who thinks faxing a credit card statement is secure is just in cloud cuckoo land!
If they just want proof that you own the card then you should be able to fax a copy with the personal stuff blanked out. i.e. Blank the transactions and the first 12 digits of the card.
I'd go elsewhere - they are protecting themselves against fraud, at the price of your privacy! All the World is a Stage; and I'm going through a difficult one at the moment!0 -
I ran into this several years ago with another company who's name I can't remember (several years ... I have problems with last week
). I took my business elsewhere, as while it may be an accepted practice, I don't like the idea and didn't feel safe with it. I'd rather pay a little more and feel safe.
I've also had quite a few bits from Expansys (although, again, the last was a while ago) but I've never had this request from them.0 -

Most people would not be aware of how typical this procedure is as it relates only to a minority of transactions which require additional verification. To be clear, eXpansys do not require any transaction information, spending habits or credit limits and are satisfied to receive any card information with the first 12 digits hidden.
Furthermore, for security reasons we ask customers to upload the information through a secure login on our website and would not encourage any customer to send any such details through insecure means.
We would encourage any customer to contact their bank if in any doubt as the points above relate exclusively to eXpansys.
Thanks Flo – every customer is important!
