How to measure underlay

Hi,

How do you calculate how much underlay you need? Is it by the square meter of the rooms or the length and width added together?

Thanks!

  • Square metre, length multiplied by width.

You need the same amount as the carpet. Square meters is a good method.
Don't go for the free underlay offers, it's usually cheap & nasty. Buy decent stuff on line for the same price.
Underlay is more important than the carpet.

In a lot of cases you need a lot less than the carpet as you can piece together the underlay, which you can't for carpet.

So any cut outs for say an alcove, or cupboard etc can be used and for the stairs, you only put underlay on the top of the step.

so yes width x length but take off for any cutouts.
  • Cheers ! Very helpful :)

Can you recommend an online store and also name of good underlay?

Two links that I have bookmarked. I have not purchased from these sites BTW so I recommend you doing some checks. I remember that at least one, the first I think, came from this forum some time back.
