    a) I'd be removing the pictures/identifiers from here - you're making yourself look foolish and open to the hotel challenging you

    b) I think you've getting off lightly at £300 - you've no idea on what the TV's connected to, whether it has any other boxes etc attached and what the removal/destruction/installation/admin costs are

Maybe that last tequila and subsequent pillow fight wasn't such a good idea

All removed but this ISN'T a debate as what i'm told and charged is completely Different and backed up by this evidence. All witnessed by 4-5 people at the reception.

    Yes - pay up

The receptionist probably had no idea of cost nor any authority to 'negotiate'

You on the other hand are liable for the damage and either through your own funds or insurance need to cough up. I see nothing on the evidence you've provided showing that this was a full and final settlement nor a binding agreement with T&C's so suggest you're probably out of luck.

At least this was in UK - I've seen it abroad where your passport would have been confiscated until you'd paid much more than this

I wonder if they would let you buy the TV from Currys and install it for them. :)

And pay for the electrical certification/PAT testing/use of room for the time it's being installed etc etc - can't see much change from £300 :rotfl:

To be honest, that scrap of paper is worth next to nothing, it could juse be made up. In future get anything like that on headed paper.

OP, have they actually charged your card the £300? If so contact your bank and tell them you did not authorise that amount therefore the payment is unauthorised (they may try and tell you you did authorise it, in which case ask them for a letter of deadlock so you can refer the matter to the financial ombudsman).

Its up to your bank/the hotel to prove you did authorise that payment. Not up to you to prove that you didn't. Authorising them to take £250 does not authorise them to help themselves (nor does authorising a company for 1 transaction allow them to help themselves whenever they feel like it in future - although banks will try to tell you thats the case). Remember, its your money - not the banks. They have a duty of care towards you - their customer, not to the retailer who's debiting the payments.

Tbh I don't understand the replies on here. OP wasn't (at least as I understood it) trying to get out of paying for the damage. Just questioning the amount which they're perfectly entitled to do. You're only liable for actual losses caused by the breach. So they're not entitled to the price of a new tv unless the tv was new.

The costs of installing...I'd expect to be proportionate depending on how old the tv was (and if they employ someone to do weekly maintenance already which would include this in his duties, its not a loss arising from the breach so cannot be claimed) since they'd have to pay that when they upgraded the tv anyway. PAT testing needs done every year so again, i'd expect it to be proportionate.
