Fraudulent trader

Hi all,
On the 12th July I have discussed with the car trader that I would like to view a Peugeot 308 advertised on their website and arrange a viewing for the 18th July. The dealer mentioned that I need to give him beforehand a £200 deposit. I have enquired if the deposit will be refundable if the car inspection is not satisfactory and the goods are not as described. The dealer confirmed that he will fully refund the £200 deposit if after our inspection I will not be satisfied with the goods.
On the 18th July I have visited the garage with my girlfriend and proceeded to check the vehicle (body work, interior, exterior, paperwork, service history etc.). I have managed to get in touch with the previous owner of the vehicle and after a quick call he mentioned not to buy the vehicle and that the engine has many issues. I have requested from the dealer to hand us the key so that we can turn on the engine.
Unfortunately, the car would not start. In addition to that we have checked the paperwork and there were many other advisories on the MOT.
I have approached the dealer mentioning that I am not comfortable to proceed buying this vehicle because it is not as described and if the car does not start we cannot even take it for a test drive.
The dealer started to become very aggressive and accusing me that I have no intention in buying the car. I have mentioned that I have travelled for more than 1h to view this vehicle and sent him a deposit in good faith as per our initial agreement therefore I had 100% intention to purchase the car if it would have worked properly.
The dealer was getting more and more aggressive and shouting at us. He was shouting that not only I will not get my deposit back I will not take any car for a test drive and he was threatening myself and my partner.
I was concerned for the safety of myself and my partner and therefore decided to leave his premises.
So at the moment my £200 deposit is with the car trader and they are refusing to give me the opportunity to purchase another vehicle, take it for a test drive or refund the money back.
There are many other Google reviews from different customers regarding this trader and they all mention the violent nature of this individual.
Is there any chance I can recover my deposit ?
Many thanks in advance for all your support and advice

Trading Standards need to be informed, this is now done through the Citizens' Advice Bureau. If you still get no joy then go to the Small-Claims court. You could also try the police because of his threatening behaviour, but you might get the usual 'civil matter' rubbish.
Any dealer who wants £200 just to view a car is well dodgy in my book0 -
Why did you pay a deposit just to go and look at the car? Pretty stupid move if you ask me.0
