New Build - Move In

Hi all,
We're due to complete on a new build from Redrow in October (first week hopefully).
Just wondered if anyone had any experience on when you get an initial completion date from them? We exchanged contracts a while ago now and the exterior is complete. Interior walls are being put up and the current updates are that the plumbers are in.
We're going to ask to visit the site to get measurements for things like curtans in the next few weeks, but just wondering when the next stages happen, such as the welcome party with the neighbours etc. Has anyone been able to get access early to allow a carpet company to take measurements so we can get the carpet ordered to be fit ASAP when we've got the keys? Same goes for tiles.
Any info much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

We're moving into our new build next week. We exchange inAprol and were told a. Estimated completion date if end if July. We got our completion date last Friday (they only give you 10 days notice) so have been bang on with the dates. We have been inside the house twice and I've got my final inspection and show round on weds. I very much doubt they'll allow you to fit carpets prior to completion, our builders wouldn't (Bellway) so we paid the builders to carpets and turf do they would done before completion. It's more expensive than arranging it yourself but at least we can now just move in. The ballache is sorting out all the intilities, especially broadband as they don't have the new address on their system. Oh and you'll need to order bins from the council too.0

Can you measure up the rooms and take lots of photos !
This helped us when we had to wait some time between offer and finally moving in.
Note the location of the wall sockets, measure size of each room.
I did a scale plan of each room and worked out what was the best size of bed for small bedroom. How much room we had for wardrobes etc.
What extras are available ? How many sockets, light fittings in each room.
Maybe have a box of LED bulbs from screwfix ready by looking at each fitting.
TV aerial cables, broadband0 -
Thanks both for sharing your experiences.
We're not looking to fit the carpet before completion, simply get accurate measurements (particularly for the stairs) so we can get it ordered ready for completion. Was hoping for a little more notice than 10 days before completion! Doesn't give much time for organising!
We were tempted to get carpets included as an extra but deceided against it due to little choice and poor quality. We've been told we'll get multiple sockets in each room.
I feel like we should be doing something/buying something whilst we're waiting, but there seems to be nothing to do other than wait!0 -

We live in a Redrow home, moved in in March 2014. Our sales staff and site manager were great, they allowed us and trades in to measure up (but not fit) and even allowed one of the residents to store stuff in the garage ahead of the move, on the condition that Redrow retained the key.
Ask nicely and hope for the best! Obviously all sites are different but you may get lucky.
Also, no shortage of sockets, we live in a three bed semi and we have 5 double sockets in our lounge..0 -
I was allowed into my new build 3 weeks before I moved in on an escorted visit.
The house at that stage had no Kitchen, or bath, toilets etc, but it gave me a chance to measure up.0
