Travel Insurance end date - when the plane lands vs when you get home

Hi all
Just thought I would share this as I wasn't aware of it until now...
I am getting some TI for an upcoming trip. I've narrowed it down to Virgin and Coverwise. My flight back does not get in until 11pm on 13/08, so I asked them both whether it would be prudent to book my insurance up to and including the 14/08, in case the flight was delayed.
Virgin said I only needed to book it until the 13th. They said that because my scheduled flight is due to arrive on that date, even if a problem meant me getting back later I would still be covered.
Coverwise said I should not look look at what date the flight lands, but rather at what time I expect to go through my front door. In my case I live a few hours from the airport and so will need to book the 14th.
Not sure why the difference and would be interested to hear if anyone does. But in the meantime I just thought I'd share this.
Cheers

You need cover up until the end of your trip, it ends when you get home not when the plane lands. That said, I'm not sure that you have any meaningful cover for that final portion of your journey so you're probably not losing much if it isn't covered.
However you don't want to give the insurer any excuse to refuse to cover you, so buy cover through to the 14th.0 -
I would think it would only be a couple of £s more for the extra days cover so not overly important or expensive.
Far more important to go ahead and book the insurance at once, as then cancellation cover would be in place and if an event, accident or illness etc. occurred between now and departure your trip would be covered.0 -
Thanks for the replies. All booked now.
Fort the record, Virgin confirmed that their cover ends when you leave Customs/Immigration in the UK at the airport. Coverwise confirmed that theirs ends when you get home.
On a complete tangent, my initial quote with Coverwise (Silver) was £7.66. On the screening page I had to declare Mild Asthma (which I probably don't have, but that was the closest thing I could choose). It did change the premium, but in my favour! Only a very small amount to £7.22, but still thought it very odd.
