O/S Daily Saturday 22nd July 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Morning everyone,

It’s a damp wet start to the day here, but the forecast is for it to dry up a bit with sunny spells, so I won’t be enjoying spending time in the local park todayl

I’ve been up since 6.00am again this morning I just couldn’t get back to sleep so I got up and read for a while. On the plus side I have, managed to get into a new book. I quite often have trouble getting into books until I have read the first couple of chapters.

Yesterday I managed to get up to date with the housework and washing. All that needs doing today is my bedding and I’ve stripped the bed and got the first load in.

All of the schools around here have finished for the holidays now, so the town will be busy for the next six weeks. I try to avoid it and go out shopping either early in the day or last thing just before the shops close.

I was hoping for some warm, dry wind free weather so that I can get the last coat of paint on my outhouse door. That is not going to be today so I will save that job up for another day.

I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.

    Morning all

It's sunny here at the moment but clouding over fast, we may need to go on shore power today as I will need to do a load of washing.

CHS slipped yesterday, it was raining when we arrived home, he hates getting wet so ran up the jetty, jumped on to the boat and slipped. Fortunately he had hold of the tiller so only got wet up to his knees, but he banged one of his knees really badly on the deck as he fell. I've been telling him for weeks that his shoes aren't safe as they have no grip, maybe he will listen now!

No more work for me for 6 weeks, woohoo, I may get bored, who knows.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy overcast and raining here, laying water everywhere has been raining since some time during the night.

DH up and gone into work to help his boss out, he'll be home at 10am, we'll then be hitting the road. Both boys still in their pits, I'll wake them in a bit.

Dinner last night was breaded chicken portions for the menfolk as I couldn't get what I wanted, they had chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I had quorn shepherds pie (I made 3 when I made them on Thurs, 1 for Thursday night dinner, 1 for the freezer and 1 to have last night) I had veg with mine too.

    So today -
I'll be heading into town to visit the building society first thing, then home to get the last few bits packed.

Both myself and DH are more than ready for a break, although we did have a week in away in April, we've both been working more hours since before last Xmas, so think we're due for some down time and r&r.

    Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone.

Low white cloud still here and the track is wet from overnight rain. Here's hoping it's gone.

My day yesterday was unexpectedly very nice. I was taking an elderly man from our local hospital down to the main bus station in Glasgow. He'd been sailing with friends, landed at Crinan and fell over. At A&E it was found he had a cracked rib and an extremely serious hidden chest infection. He was kept in four eight days until fit to travel. The docs didn't want him to go on the bus to Glasgow.

He was lovely, from Orkney originally, we chatted all the way there and I made sure he was on the correct bus for Edinburgh. I was sad to see him go.

Anyway, I drove straight home. I've got plans here this weekend, unfortunate timing as it would have been perfect to stay over with DM. On the way back I got the phone call offering me job which I'd interviewed for on Wednesday. :j:j:j I'm very pleased to get my teeth into a new challenge for four hours a week. And it'll make sure that I earn enough to get NI credits towards my SP - I need one more year to reach the maximum when it comes. I worked full time for 46 years but most were contracted out. Swings and roundabouts!!

This afternoon I'm going to the birthday party of my neighbour's son, he'll be five years old today.

My new garden chairs arrived yesterday whilst I was out. They're in the big barn still so I'll bring them in today. Maybe...just maybe I'll get to use them today. :j

Hugs al around. I hope everyone a happy Saturday.

Morning folks and thanks for kicking off HOLLYH. Rubbish night last night - I spent all night dreaming I was assembling wooden standsteps which kept collapsing! I was worn out by the time I got up!

We have rain this morning but it's forecast to clear mid morning. Just the bathmats and towels to wash but delaying it until the rain actually stops, just in case it doesn't!

Need to pop in town to collect Mr TA's supplies from Boots pharmacy this morning. Hope it's ready as he was taking extra of his Oramorph for the pain in his hand, rather than the Dihydrocodeine the hospital supplied. (The pain now settling but he is fed up already of attempting everything one handed!)

I may have a quick browse round before heading for the bus back up again. But my purse will only open for an exceedingly good bargain I might spot! There is nothing I really need to buy.

Supper tonight is to be chicken curry and rice (easily eaten one handed) but lunch yet to be decided.

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. Take care all xx

Happy holiday NMLC and happy school holidays for HESTER. x

    Morning all,

Hubby has taken 'Little Red' to the car dealership for a full service. He's done thousands of miles in it since he bought it a few months ago. He says the brakes need adjusting.

Hoping to go to the shopping centre later there's some bits we need. We went food shopping last night but didn't need much as we are going to the caravan on Monday. Can't come soon enough as I'm a wreck! Hubby and I have been getting on better of late so it will probably do us good as a couple.

Rain has stopped for now. We need the sun to come back as I've got the heat on.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Good morning all and thank you Hollyharvey for the start off. Well done on getting your new challenge Gers, hope you enjoy it.
hester enjoy the school holidays, my eldest DD who is a school manager and her OH have vanished to the depths of Deal to their caravan to have a fortnights peace and quiet. For her it involves the occasional bike ride and a few visits to the Zetland Arms pub for the medicinal glass of vino afterwards :).They normally go to Greece for a fortnight, but this year decided to use their caravan for two weeks for a change, they are normally there every weekend during the season, but they are going to New York in the October half term to see my DGS and his wife so decided to save extra for their trip. She has quite a stressful job at the school as its a special needs one and she has to fight the local LEA for funding almost all the time.My son-in-law works for a HA and his job is full of stress as well so their caravan is their saviour at times.

Today is my 'pottering' around day, No shopping needed and all the washing is done and up to date ,even ironed and put away:) so I shall have a restful day doing what ever takes my fancy ,probably a bit of knitting,a bit of tv watching (I have some decent movies on my TiVo box to watch) and I know I have a nice piece of steak in my freezer that I will dig out for dinner tonight. But a recharging of my batteries day ahead I think :)

It rained during the night ,but has since dried up and looks reasonably bright outside at the moment, but I have nothing I need to buy in the shops so I shall be a stay-at -home grandma today :)

Hope you all have a good day and get to have a bit of R and R as well

    Cheers chums

  • Morning, ((((((((((hugs)))))))))) if you need one.

Congratulations to Gers on the new job.

It has chucked it down with rain all night, I forgot to bring the kitchen mat in yesterday, its dripping very forlornly on the line. I did an overnight wash, hoping to get it dry, its just the general stuff from the week.

No plans for today, I have a book I want to finish reading, have 4 books waiting for me in borrowbook so they will keep me going until the library van comes a week on Monday. OH is also using it, he was delighted yesterday to find they had the whole series of a new author.

Quiche tonight, with coleslaw and jacket spud, I have soaked the gammon for tomorrow, will cook it this morning and slice it tomorrow, it will heat up nicely in the top of the steamer tomorrow night.

Morning everyone, thanks for the start Holly x

Many congratulations Gers on the job offer :T

We obviously had a lot of rain in the night as the grass is very wet, the rain also seems to have dislodged some moss from the porch guttering so will clean that up after breakfast. I am late up this morning, had a good nights sleep and a lie-in too but still feel tired!
Had an email yesterday from the FD's to say that the headstone was finally finished and back in situ so I will pop down the nursery for some plants and then head over this afternoon to sort out DP's grave. They loved their garden so only seems right that their plot should be full of plants and colour, bless their hearts :heart2:
Right, time to start the day, have a good one folks x
