Accuracy of moneysupermarket.com Credit Card Check

I just did the moneysupermarket.com credit card eligibility check and unfourtunately all the cards I was considering to get have the lowest chances of being approved !!!

How accurate are these checks ? Has anyone tried this out and then been approved for a credit card that they were told they had a very low chance of getting and vice versa ?

I once had a 20% chance of opening a Santander 123 MasterCard but was accepted at the advertised APR and with a limit of £2,000.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

How can you define how accurate these things are without sampling a significant application size?

It's a ridiculous question. 20% is "some chance". 80% is "more chance". If you want an absolute answer for the question just apply.

Thanks for all the replies . . .

I would rather not have hard searches on my credit file if I get rejected by a particular lender, but it looks like you just have to chance it sometimes !!!

So far I've tried the credit checkers with : Money Supermarket, Totally Money, U Switch, Experian, Money Saving Expert and Clearscore (couldn't find the one for Noddle).

For particular lenders, the chances really do vary quite wildly according to different credit checkers, particularly with Tesco and Sainsbury's. With other lenders, such as MBNA and the Bank of Scotland Group (LLoyds, Halifax, Bank of Scotland) every checker gives the exact same score. Almost all of them say I'm ineligible for Virgin for some reason, yet one says I'm pre-approved with them, therefor 100% chance of acceptance !!! Wierd . . . .

Santander has consistently low chance across all checkers, but considering that another poster had success with them in similar circumstances I might just give it a go. TSB has even lower chances for all of them as well, so might give that one a miss though.

MSE shows my eligibility of getting the AMEX Gold card as 0% (not eligible). I applied, and was accepted.

Likewise it showed my Lloyds eligibility at 70% and I was rejected.

95% for all MBNA card, which I've found pretty accurate when applying with them.

Some of the lenders such as Virgin, AA and MBNA have their own credit checkers.
Havn't tried them yet, but how accurate are these ? Even if they tell you that you only have a low chance of being approved for their card, are they sometimes wrong in the end anyway ?

90% can still mean people end up declined.

You have to remember that scores mean nothing it is your credit history that matters..

Have you moved, have you added your name to the electoral register have you changed jobs has your earnings changed have you linked account with someone
all these variables plus others are considered so you cannot exactly compare yourself with others...
Are you applying to a credit card that you recently closed an account with so many refuse your application for upto 6 months at a time..
what type of card do you need or want; balance transfer, money transfer, purchase or to be used while you are holiday ...
Just think about what you need it for and see what "best" matches your needs..

You keep asking about accuracy ... I would strongly advice not to falsify your answers when completing any application as it won't do you any favours. Plus take your time filling out the form and ensure that you add accurate data.
