You can always pay later for any missing years - he can request his NICs record online - and I doubt one year will make the difference in whether he has 35 or not in 40 or so years time. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0

You (yes, YOU!!!) need to declare earnings to HMRC: If only to pay NI if his income is below tax level.Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help. I run a small business and have recently started employing my son one day a week. Can anyone tell me what the limit is he can earn before he has to declare his earnings to HMRC? He is not on any benefits.
Thanks
Willow
Unless this is "cash in claw" situation which, frankly, seems the sort of example from any father to any child that would be deplored by many.
You're presumably already reporting other income (eg yours..) to HMRC ... please tell us yes... and for any other workers...
How much has son earned already this tax year? (He doesn;t have to tell you, but would/should pass on any P45..)0 -

he doesn't declare anything. You register as an employer and to complete a new starter checklist You will be sent a tax code to operate against his wages.0 -
A lot of assumptions based on limited info. The rules are different if you are paying your employees less than £113 per week.

he doesn't declare anything.
As others have said, he will have to.
Either in the normal way by way of a self assessment return online by the Jan following the tax year.
Or each month - to the national UC contact centres - if he is claiming Universal Credit and working.
But whether there's any NICs, income tax or other liability depends on the sums involved. Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.0
