Thanks again for all the replies! OH works directly between Charing Cross & Covent Garden tube stop. He doesn't want to change at all on his commute, hence why it needs to be Charing Cross as we've yet to find another way to get him to that location without having to do any changes. It's a 5 minute walk for him from Charing Cross & I work from home so it's only OH we need to sort. We would be using Gatwick airport to see family.0

Just noticed OP asked about Eltham. Eltham ok. The station is close to the Progress estate, which was designed on garden city type lines and has nice housing. Eltham Common nearby as is the gorgeous Eltham Palace and gardens. Parks and a small patch of woodland further down the line at Falconwood. New Eltham is also ok, and might be a bit cheaper. Some people would prefer it to Eltham proper.0

I used to live on the Progress Estate (Cornwallis Walk). Also lived the Eltham Park side of Eltham. Actually liked both and surprised it's not got the best reputation. New Eltham was nice too but there's not much there. I used to love 'The Tarn' at Falconwood - small lake with wildlife around. People do like to put the area down, but I thought it was okay. There are some large estates near Falconwood which I'd avoid.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
Also used to live there; love the walk from the tarn through the woods across welling way and up to the cafe.0

No need to be so rude ReadingTim. I was replying to previous comments asking why it needed to be Charing Cross. Furthermore, if you had bothered to read my replies I had posted you would see we live in Newcastle & can't visit them as we are under time pressure, so I was asking for the general feel of certain areas. I was asking for area suggestions, not rude comments. If you aren't going to comment anything helpful or positive to the thread, i suggest you find better things to do with your time.0

Why don't you come down for a weekend and have a look around some different areas?0

We are moving in 3-4 weeks so there is no time sadly. But as said previously, I was asking for general area ideas, not advise on how to plan my move. I think we have enough now though thanks to the lovely previous comments

Good hunting! Hope it goes well.
PS and being fussy about a commute is imho v sensible. It's bad enough being on one overcrowded train, let alone having to change onto another or take a bus.0 -
Thanks very much for all your help bouicca21! It's been very appreciated

Check out this 'walking distance' tube map. Shows mins (walking) between each station. Obviously the original tube map can be quite deceptive as to how near things are, but this will give you a good idea of what's walkable.
