Amazon Mastercard/Newday payment help!

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to post.
I will try and be as precise as possible with dates,
First this is my first ever credit card... i decided to try the amazon Platinum Mastercard, i activated the card on the 27/05/17 and made my first purchase on the same day. I set up a direct debit so i didn't need to worry about forgetting to pay each month.
I have a £500 limit to the card, by 01/06/17 (reading from online statement) i have spent a total of £473.94. I know i cannot spend anymore otherwise i would be charged extra for going over the limit.
I would had thought payment would be taken out of my set up direct debit when its time to pay at the end of the month, it did not. Without realising this i further spent £40 on 12/07/17 and was charged an overlimit fee of £12 on 13/07/17 (which i did not realise till a couple of days later when i checked my debit card balance) To my surprise the credit card has still not taken money out of my debit card, so i go onto my amazon mastercard account, and see that it still needs to be paid..
I thought maybe i did not set up the direct debit correctly as this is my first time, so i go ahead and make a payment of £473.93 on 18/07/17 , I received an email from amazon straight away at 16:05 with : "We are pleased to confirm that we have received the payment you made to your Amazon Mastercard account."
Today i tried to buy something, but i couldn't as i didn't have enough money so i checked my debit card account to see these transactions:
19 jul 17 - NEWDAY LIMITED : -£473.97
20 jul 17 - AMAZON CARDS : -£473.97
So i presume not only did i set up my direct debit, it took money out LATER than the end of the month resulting in my overlimit fee? And also i paid an additional £473.97 from when i manually paid?
Has anyone had any experience with amazon and newday? and which company do i call up to sort this mess out? Amazon or Newday? This is infuriating as i'm left without money in my debit card which is the only source of cash i have...
Also would i be able to make a claim and compensation as well ?
If any further information is needed, please feel free to ask
Thanks

Ask whoever sent you a statement to return one of the payments.
Going forward you now know that the D/D has been set up so you just need to make sure that you have sufficient funds in your bank account to pay every month.
No compensation is due - you paid twice!0 -
Thank you for the response i will ring them up tomorrow!0
