I've had a laptop with wifi problems too (Intel Centrino); not solved yet (but current theory is its a Windows10 issue). Suggest you check the internet works by either using an ethernet cable OR a wifi dongle OR tethered phone (ensuring phone uses wifi).
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

Check you don't have a picture of an aeroplane by the clock. If so this means its in flight mode and wi-fi won't work. You can take it out of Aeroplane mode through Settings and typing Flight Mode and change the settings if needs be.

Very often it is the wifi card drivers. Wifi cards are often added on by the manufacturers from a third party. Don't rely on MS update to put new drivers on for you either. You laptop manufacturer usually will not have the latest drivers either. You should visit the chip, and card manufactures site instead. I always choose the newest driver, even if it is not Windows Hardware Qualified.

If you are the sort of person that always uses the laptop on mains, then a Homeplug could be an excellent choice for you.

thanks its definitely not in flite mode probably needs a driver update, how will I find the right update for the wifi card
  • We have had a problem with an Acer laptop losing wifi. It would work if we used a wifi dongle. It ended up going back to the retailer twice but they did fix it in the end. I think it had a new adapter in the end.

Right click that start flag, choose device manager

Expand "network adapters" - find the one that mentions wireless

Right click it, Go to properties => Power management -
and take the tick out of the box to "allow the computer to turn off the device"

If that doesnt solve your issue, connect with ethernet cable, and follow the same process except choose "update driver"
