Have a HD TV in guest room that has no aerial connection, so looking at these streaming devices.
I can't see a major differnce between them to be honest. My only concernd abouth the Roku is that I've read you have to input your credit card details? Is that something to be paranoid about?
It is after all just a guest room so don't need to be OTT!
Any suggestions/advice would be most welcome, also need it to be simple and techless!!
PS have also posted on TV saving but hope to get more info here!

Roku and Firestick are essentially just variations on an Android TV box. It really depends on what you intend to do with it - what you intend to watch on that TV.0

For usage really for just watching 'normal' TV not movies, games or anything like that.0

You don't need to input your credit card for the Roku you can just skip that step.0

Amazon is horrible interface, full of hurdles like ads, very tedious, it also lost settings on a regular basis and that includes some sort of authentication. I put three in and within 2 months I was looking for a club hammer to smash them with.
I have an amazon fire stick, I have never had a preoblem except sometime's the video starts speeding up and slowing down at times. Probably due to memory management. A restart cures it. And there is a new version out new with much better specs so I'm sure it is fine. (and I do say this is rare and after months with no reboot!)
However yes Roku is a lot better, but more expensive. (I got the fire stick on a half price or less offer).
Dunno about watching normal tv though as I use it for neflix and amazon watching!0 -

Tip for future :-
If anything needs credit card details to continue, and you dont want to provide them, you can use the generic VISA test code ..
Use 4111 1111 1111 1111 for the credit card number
And any date in the future for the expiry date.
If it asks for an address then just make one up.
Robert is now your farthers brother
(You obviously cant use these details to spend any money, it will just fail - but it will pass any internal tests and work for your purpose)0 -
Just google Roku no Credit card link, it'll appear and you can skip it.
The main advantage with Roku over the firestick is the NowTV app. Otherwise pretty much the same, I prefer the interface of the FireTv, but that's minor.
Roku's UI is a bit outdated and the hardware released here is outdated compared to what has been released stateside.:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0
