Looking at buying 2nd hand Polo, in my name and her as a named driver as she is just learning to drive. Any suggestions?

Insurers wised up to parents insuring their children's cars in their name to save money years ago, so generally won't allow a introductory discount, and will rate on the highest risk - the youngest driver. Therefore would suggest insuring under your Daughter's name so she can start earning a no claims discount.0

try clickthepepper.com.......
but as mentioned - the car needs to be registered in your daughters namesmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

we were happy (well relativity, it was expensive, but the best price we could get) with prices from quinn-direct for our 17yr old son ( & he was main driver + me as named) + car has to be registered in their name too IIRC
confused et al didn't return too many entries who wanted to handle this age group0 -
If your daughter is a student try Endsleigh as they are aimed at students and can usually give discounts.0

thanks for that everyone - not sure yet whether we are going for a 1.2 or a 1.4, I guess I will have to laboriously do 2 quotes to see if there is going to be a vast different. Can anyone tell me without going through all this?0

1.2 engine is insurance groups 2-3 and the 1.4 is groups 3-6 depending on derivative.0 -
If she is going to be the primary driver, then I agree with the others that you need to put her as the named driver (this will also help with gaining a no claims discount). However, if you share the car and you drive it more often, then Tesco can provide quite good quotes. Last year my Dad insured his 1.2 Corsa (1999) with me as a named driver with a provisional license for around £400. So make sure you give them a go. Plus you also earn clubcard points, and if you do the quote online you'll get 15% off at the moment
Hope that helps you find the cheapest price - car insurance is a pain!0 -
Hi when I passed my test Liverpool Victoria were very competitive

Direct Line also do a similar thing to Tesco where your daughter would earn NCD if she took a policy out with them after being a named driver.0
