Defaulted account disappeared from credit report 6 years after default but now back.

Options
I had an account with Next which was defaulted in 2006 and disappeared from my credit report 6 years later. After making many payments to the debt management company it was passed to, I made a full and final settlement in 2016. I have just checked my credit reports with Experian, Equifax and Callcredit and found the Next account showing again on Equifax and Callcredit as a partially settled account. My understanding was that this account would disappear for good 6 months after the default date. Is this correct that it is back in view on my report?

Sorry. I meant 6 years. I defaulted in 2006 and it fell off the report in 2012. But after making a full and final payment in 2016 it is back. Is this right?

No. Raise a dispute and have it removed.

Who should I raise the dispute with - the debt collection agency or Equifax and Callcredit?

Both. The CRAs may be more responsive.

    ZX81, after reading this :-

A simple contract debt will normally be statute-barred if:
    • the creditor has not already obtained a county court judgment (CCJ) against you; and
    • you or anyone else owing the money (if your debt is in joint names) have not made a payment towards the debt during the last six years; and
    • you have not written to the creditor admitting you owe the debt during the last six years.

As the OP has been paying, does that not mean it isnt statute barred ?? #confused#

It wasn't statute barred, but shouldn't be appearing on the OPs files.

So still owed, but shouldn't be reported.

What date is showing on the default?. The DCA will have put a default on when purchasing the debt (as Next will have then removed their's) but it should have been the same date and so now fallen off. The CRA's remove them once the 6 years has gone, if its the wrong date then you need to get the DCA to put the correct date on. If it has the correct date on then tell the CRA.
