London & Country are a NIGHTMARE!

  • I used L&C a few years ago, the 1st time was a simple remortgage which went smoothly and was great. The 2nd time was a more complicated house move and they gave us false information which almost lost us the house we're now in.

Basically, I ended up organising a mortgage for myself when L&C told me this would be impossible.

As FTB with excellent salaries, low debt and fantastic credit files, there was no need for us to even use brokers

What's the issue with your application / finding a mortgage then?
We've phoned their head offic repeatedly

In business some customers are simply more trouble than they are worth. No one would ever get any work done if they constantly answered the phone.
  • They've been good for me.

I must have been one the unlucky ones too. I had a poor experience with them a few years back. They wouldn't accept proof of deposit that was held in several different online accounts as the balance statement print outs didn't have the url of the bank website at the top of the page! (That is a function of the printer settings and could easily be faked).

They then told me I would need to have the statements stamped and verified by the various banks which took a lot of running around and Nationwide originally said they weren't able to help since I had an online account with them and details were not accessible in the branch.

L&C very slow pace meant I lost a purchase because I couldn't get a mortgage offer in time for closure of sealed bids on a vacant house I wanted.

Thumbs down from me and I would not go near them again.

I used them and they were fairly swift. Even when I needed my offer to be re-issued they were quick and accommodating. Maybe you got a bad advisor?

What is your actual issue (beside delay on their emails (you could call them))?

Used them 4 times now and only had excellent service from them. I recommend them all the time. I've not read reviews on them as my first encounter with them came through personal recommendations so can't comment on that.

The above is a lender requirement nothing to do with the broker. Internet statements need to have the url down the bottom for the lenders to accept them. A broker cannot force a lender to accept something that is against criteria.

This thread would be better placed on the Mortgage board. I will move it there in the hope of more responses.

I have just used them and to be honest a large portion of my friends and family have recently (as in, their most recent purchase/remortgage).

My only concern is i know from 1st hand experience the rate at which new people join and leave so you always have the risk of getting an inexperienced person, so for that reason if anyone had a particularly unusual case i'd probably recommend going to a "local" broker.

Other than that i've had a massively positive experience with my advisor, the case manager, their online system and everything.

I think as others have said it's completely down to the adviser you get

L&C were absolute chocolate fireguards for us earlier this year.

We wasted 2+ months with them before switching to a 'proper' broker who had our offer within a week or so.
