Boating holiday on French canals/rivers

Ha anyone done a holiday like this?

We are four retired people in our sixties, and want a leisurely holiday afloat (don't care where, just looking for warmth and good places to moor up and eat/drink).

We would like a week at least, don't mind driving a shortish distance (say to the Loire Valley) and want a good quality boat and reliable company to deal with.

Any ideas?

Thanks richardw, we did briefly look at that but it would involve us in a very long drive.

We know that we can reach the north/mid France within a day easily from where we live in the U.K., and that's why we felt somewhere around the Loire would suit us best.

If you are willing to fly, go to Carcassonne. And boat it from there up or down the Canal du Midi. Absolutely incredible and the infrastructure is all for the boats along that canal.
