KonMari 2017 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

I've been away for rather a long while, looking after a family member while their partner was in hospital. With their approval, I did some kondoing in the sitting room (dead flower arrangement and old newspapers), and gutted a bathroom cupboard when the owner expressed despair at ever getting round to it.
Back home, I've done my third annual kitchen kondo. A few items are leaving the building, as some I forgot I had, and had never used. Others are going to people who have expressed an interest in them.
I'm in the process of rationalising mobiles and tablets. My tablet developed a fault, and my small mobile smartphone was proving too small to read. So I now have a larger smartphone, and will do without the tablet. In the process of changing over, I was able to change various passwords, including for MSE, which I had inadvertently got locked out of. So, old forgotten passwords are all kondoed, and I'm down to one device instead of two!0 -
ooh thank you pooky, I needed to know that about the vibration plate. I bought it from ideal world shopping channel and it even has a dvd with it but I have hardly used it. It looks nice but needs to be flat in an area close to a socket. Thinking cap on. With winter coming and already less allotment and cycle riding, I need to do something. Puffy-out-ness from my re-bounder, which is on my landing and muscle strengthening from the vibrating plate. Sounds good
I have been selling crafting stuff for two days, at a huge loss but ho hum, I have had the benefit of nice artifacts in my house, even if never used and no I will not feel guilty, its only money I have wasted  I think the last two lots will sell pronto by the weekend and one large item is being collected later this week, lots more space opening up and money in the bank. At the moment, it looks a bit of a tip, it is all the packaging etc but I saw dust  in my living room, must have been all that moving of stuff. Duster in action after my cup of oolong
I await my new free standing skandi design coat rack, hope it is tomorrow. I could do with taking jackets off the floor. Then I will do the routine sorting of hall sideboard, three cupboards and two `everything in` drawers.0 -
A bag of ornamanents went to the CS and a few bits of rubbish went to the skip. Managed to forget the bag of books for the book bin, but that can be my treat for tomorrow!"Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful." William Morris0

I need to visit the charity shop, I've got a big bag with some cushions in that have been sitting in a spare room for several weeks. Will try and remember to do it tomorrow morning just before 9am when I can hopefully park outside the shop. The bank closed a few weeks ago and I visit the village less now so haven't got around to taking them.
The fire screen I ordered last week but which I got sent a basket instead has turned up today. I just hope it will fit in the fireplace at our new house, visiting again next week. The seller apologised and said I could keep the basket...... very kind but I don't actually want it. My neighbour has said she would like it if I don't need to send it back. I'm hanging on to it for now as I don't think it's right to keep it if I have to return the firescreen if that isn't suitable. It's currently taking up a lot of space in my lounge.
Waiting for OH to phone then will be off to batch cook some mince into chilli/spag bol so I've got some for tonight and some in the freezer for a couple of weeks time when I do work which I really can't be arsed to cook after. Whilst that's cooking I'm off to the garage to collapse a load of cardboard boxes surplus to requirements to make space for my stock delivery in a couple of weeks time. Umm, I spent a few minutes after w*rk in my bike shed. This is a humugous space (3 ft wide x 5 ft 9 long) where I keep the pushbike and various other things which aren't of huge value but are useful; paint cans etc.
I have to find a home for a few months for the curcurbit harvest. I have 4 huge pumpkins and 9 butternuts. The largest BNS are the size and weight of babies, although considerably less likely to keep one up at night. There is no room for them indoors - they are currently languishing on every available surface inc the rug in the living room and the place looks like some kind of warped harvest festival is happening.:D
The cunning plan, to put them on the high shelf in the same shed, has been curtailed due to the excessive heaviness of the things. I fear they'd bring the shelf down off the wall. Sooo, the other option is the steel shelving unit at the far end of the bike shed. It's bolted to the wall and I have now cleared off the two middle shelves (the others are needed for the things which normally live on there).
One of the things displaced is an extremely large plastic bag full of clean old clothes cut up as rags. They have been there for over a decade as I don't have that many chores which require rags in quantity but I had the security of knowing they were nearby if needed. As usual, I am thinking through the issue as I type and will release the items to ragging via the charity shop, then I will have enough space to harbour the veggies.
Wanders off feeling slightly *wibbly* at the thought of de-ragging my household.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Dear GQ, while one can never have enough chocolate, one can have more than enough rags!
I rejected a bag of old towels from MIL because we have enough already to last a couple of years:)
No time to kondo today. My clients had me replacing a fridge lightbulb, shopping, cleaning, collecting a parcel, booking a table for a lunch, and planting 5 winter pansiesLuckily 2 clients made me a brew so I survived the day.
Art class all day tomorrow. I am sooo looking forward to it. On the way home I shall take another client shopping to get her friend a card and present for her 90th !I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Greent purple is my favourite too!! Ill have a look.
So the kids shopping trolley and fake food went today :-) got some more things leaving at the weekend too!! Loosing track of who is taking what though!!
Going to ask my sister if she wants a free standing mirror for her new house. We wont use it its currently in her bedroom at our house but i dont want it back in our room when she goes.
How.much are the vibro plates? I need something too!!! Seen them advertised often wondered if they are worth itFrugal living challenge - need to revisit its been.a while !! Need to reduce our debts!!0 -
We managed to reduce our rag collection with some work at the new house. A couple of old flannels came in handy as makeshift oven gloves as I forgot to take anything with us. Second visit I've taken an old OG so the flannels can return to the rag bag.

I was happy at the level of organisation etc.still lots to do but i wasnt stressing about it or burning myself out by doing it.i find it very hard to just sit and relax so it was a welcome change.

I'm envious of your BNS GQ.First time I've ever grown any BNS bigger than a pear, believe me! They're so big they're positively scary...........:rotfl:
I've taken mental note of old flannel/ emergency oven glove substitute, that might come in handy one day.
The rag-neediness dates back to when I moved into this flat and the flat before this one; both were very very dirty. I mean, as in requiring a lot of cleaning to bring them up to an acceptable standard. I went through a lot of rags and several pairs of marigolds on both occasions and truly understood the meaning of the phrase 'working one's fingers to the bone'. Getting the previous flat de-grotted took 3 weeks (between going to work) and several bags of rags.
Day-to-day, I don't have that level of filth and, although there are a few rare chores which require use-and-throw rags (metal polishing, using white spirit etc) mostly I use washable cloths. My ragbag was like a comfort blanket but I really do need to use the space they're taking up and get to grips with some habits which aren't terribly helpful in terms of living an uncluttered life; i.e. not saving everything for every possible eventuality which might occur in the next few decades.
I have to wait in for a tradesman after w*rk today but, if he's been and gone before the end of shop hours, I'll pop them up to the chazzer with a couple of other pieces - if I swither and dither, I may fail.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
