Minibus Insurance saving

Posting in case this helps anyone else. We have a 9 seater minibus as we have a large family. It has always been tricky to get reasonable insurance even with full no claims bonus. Cheapest has always been around £1000 which we have held with Swinton special branch since we got it 3 years ago. This year when I looked around for quotes I was told by another insurer that Swinton were no longer offering minibus insurance. (Turned out to be true which I had to investigate myself and had it confirmed after being passed around to several departments within Swinton so not impressed  ) The cheapest quote I could find was £1100 but ranged up to £1400! I tried all the comparison sites in order as recommended on here. I got some van insurance quotes too which I hadn't realised were different but I digress. I had a van insurance quote for £750 from directline online but when I rang to confirm they told me that they only covered vans in that department. However the agent offered to transfer me to the car insurance department. I said I was sure they wouldn't cover a minibus and he told me to try anyway. Got through to a very nice lady in car insurance and told her first off I was after a minibus quote. She went off to check with under writer and came back to say yes they would cover. Details all taken quote for £350!!!! Needless to say we went with the quote. Sharing in case this helps anyone else in the same position.

I don't think car insurers would able to suggest a right quote for a minibus. To lower the premiums, you should keep an eye on your minibus engine. Large engines could become a reason for high premiums. But, if you are using a smart and small engine, then the premiums will be down due to the low accident rate. On the other hand, I don't think that it is unable to find minibus insurance quotes over the internet. Even I found this site https://www.compareminibusinsurance.co.uk/ very reliable where you can easily compare the minibus insurance quotes according to your ease. However, you should go with the right coverage plan instead of a cheap one.

On the other hand, with an increment in voluntary excess, you can also lower the insurance premiums.

May want to check the number of seats on the policy terns just in case.

  • Maybe usually coverages offer for 17 seats (varies from 8 to 18) in the case of a minibus. However, it shouldn't be mixed with Multi-Purpose Vehicle.
