About 11 months back I bought a fitness tracker from Fitbit, Charge HR, about a month or six weeks back the wrist band began to peel badly. Reading the Fitbit Forums this seems to be an ongoing fault with this model
However, when I contacted Fitbit about the issue, and after they carried out their inquiries they made me an offer: a free replacement of my original Fitbit or 50 percent off any other tracker they had in stock. I was inclined to opt for the latter, Fitbit Charge 2, especially as the wristband seemed to be an. Ongoing issue with the Charge HR. It might also be worth mentioning that this model is no longer on sale
Part of the terms and conditions of the deal read:
The link actually brings you into their American store, so the immediate question is this will I be clobbered for American Tax and shipping costs? And there would only be about six weeks left on the guarantee
Also, as with quite a number of manufacturers, Fitbit’s own price on their UK website is £139.99 (£70 to me) the price on the boots.com where I originally bought the Fitbit are currently selling the same model at £119.99 twenty pounds of a difference (£55 to me). Not a large amount in the scale of things but…
I know that my original contract was with boots.com. Anyone had dealings with Fitbit in this regards

by accepting this offer, you will receive a 50% discount towards one Fitbit tracker currently in stock at https://www.fitbit.com/store. This offer applies to the listed price of the tracker only, not tax and shipping costs.

1) Is the 50% offer from the US Fitbit company and what about vat and shipping charges?
Answer: You really need to ask Fitbit in the US or UK - whoever offered you a 50% discount - and is that 50% of the UK price?
2) How do I choose where to buy the replacement?
Answer: That is your personal choice. You have the figures. You decide.
HAve you asked boots.com to provide a remedy?
This short extract from MSE's Consumer Rights guide may help:Know who's responsible
When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!
If a company fobs you off by saying "go to the maker instead", it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.0 -
