New energy supplier when moving homes and providing estimates?
Hello,
We are moving home. At our current home we recently had a new boiler fitted which has made a huge difference to our estimates the last few months. Now, when I contact our new supplier or try to switch supplier at our new house, do we give them the estimate usage on our current bill? The house is different size etc so not sure how accurate it will be. Or will they do their own estimates based on house size, occupants etc and then amend as and when we produce our own data?
Thanks

When you move in you will be on a Deemed Contract with the existing supplier to that property. Contact them with your details and meter readings and you are free to switch suppliers. Ask the Deemed Supplier for the Annual Quantity (gas) and Estimated Annual Consumption (EAC) electricity usage figures for your new home. This is data held by the Data Collectors for all properties based on actual meter readings adjusted for climate variations. When you have these figures then take a view on whether your usage will be different; for example, the previous owner might have had 2 teenage kids and you have none. It is then a guess which needs to be monitored closely. Give your supplier actual meter readings once a month and monitor your own usage. I use a 99p app called meters. If it looks like a large debit balance is building up, then ask for your DD to be raised (or alternatively just put money by for the day of reckoning).
As I say, the key here is monitoring so that there are no bill shocks. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You should provide the supplier with your anticipated annual consumption for the coming 12 months.
If you don't know what that will be, tell them, and they will assist you.
(I suggest you either ask the previous occupants, look at the EPC and/or consult a comparison site, most/all of which will help you even when you do not know your anticipated annual consumption in kWh)0
