Decision made for me hey, I can't escape now!

I had a blast, indeed I did! It feels like so much longer than 15 weeks that I've been away, so much has happened. Camp was the hardest and best thing I've ever done (all at once) and the places I visited were all so different.

Honestly, I haven't even processed it all myself yet, I don't know where to start when people say "tell me about it".

So, in uncharacteristically brief fashion ;) , that's all I'm going to say for now. But ask questions if you like.

And yes, to answer the obvious, I am now back in debt, woo hoo! And at the risk of a whipping from you all, it was worth it! :naughty:

  • Why was it the best and hardest? C'mon, what did you get up to? What did you see? :D

Well it was very challenging living in a bunk with ten 14-16 year old girls, teaching in the day and being responsible for them (kind of) the rest of the time. On duty 24 hours a day, like when I found they'd snuck (sp?) 4 boys into our bunk bathroom at 1am. Grr, I had to put on my angry face and be disappointed etc, when all I wanted to do was laugh... seriously, 4 grown men (almost) huddled in a small shower cubicle in only their boxer shorts (they were trying to hide from me!)... the looks on their faces when I dramatically pulled back the suspiciously rustling shower curtain :rotfl: :rotfl:

It was extremely tiring, non-stop, go-go-go, no time to stop and do nothing, but it was worth it because I got so much out of it. I made such strong friendships, with other staff and with campers, and I gained so much confidence in myself (which we know I needed). The camp itself had an amazing atmosphere, very tolerant and accepting of everybody as they are. Not just as a slogan but really, actually accepting. I can see why campers spend the year counting down to appel farm, I could only deal with leaving with the thought that'll I'll go back next year.

See, I could waffle forever, some things don't change! ;)

I'm trying to re-educate my body into uk time so I shouldn't go to bed too late, that's my excuse if I disappear soon!

kath is sounds fantastic, I for one would be happy to hear you waffle on all night ;)

the only jetlag advice I can offer is to try and force your body to work the time zone you are in, if you sleep when you're tired rather than when you should be sleeping chances are it'll take longer to get over

    Hey Kath
We haven't really spoken, but when I saw this new little thread, I had to take a peek. And I got the shock of my life! You were at appel farm? In New Jersey? I been there, I been there! Classic place, I remember the air going really hot and still and then a torrential rainstorm. And that cute little pool. There was a rebirthing thing going on, going in the pool tipped me right into it. Great place.

More stories please! Thats a good one with the boxers........ :)

Welcome home Kath, glad you had a good time, and if you got into debt, and want to go back again next year, well, you have all the motivation you need to get back out of debt before you leave!

I think these things are fab - I only ever got to go on week long residential music courses as a teenager, but they gave me lifelong friendships, useful skills such as how to make apple pie beds, and in fact it is where I met OH. (*hypno does the jumping up and down with her hand in the air saying "me miss, me miss I know the answer" but in response to the 4 boys in the shower cubicle part of the story :o *)

I am hoping that my children will gain as much (maybe not the spouse stuff at their age) with their winter away.
