Hello all
A special hello to Babs too. This is such a lovely thread with kind and caring people and sometimes a bit bonkers too.
I am another one who starts a job then gets side tracked easily, Mr Fix It calls it my " butterfly mode ":rotfl:.
It has been one of those things that I have learned to live with. Oh and Mr Fix It is also a hoarder who fills any available drawer to bursting with bits of wire and every space with bits of tech, working or not, because " it will come in handy one day ! "
Anyway I have also joined the daily thread and it helps me focus one day / job at a time. They are also a very friendly and supportive bunch. Hope this helps.
Sorry to have not posted for a while but have been struggling both mentally and physically. However I feel that I am now coming out of the dark tunnel and able to get on with things,
Fuddle I am sorry that you are poorly and hope for a swift recovery.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Babs add the week's milk to the online shop. I've done this for years, we buy 3x 6pt cartons of milk every week and it never goes off. We drink a lot of tea
You can freeze milk, but when it thaws out you have to keep shaking it. I used to freeze it until I found out it lasted the week in the fridge anyway.
Hello Babs and welcome. If you don't use much milk, I have discovered that filtered milk such as Cravendale (which has a use by date of usually 3-4 weeks in advance anyway) is good to use for at least 2 weeks after opening. Possibly you could change your order to every 2 weeks if you changed your milk. Filtered can be slightly more expensive but definitely costs less than having to do a whole £40 shop.0 -
Well thank you all so much for your suggestions. It's a lot to think about but now I've no excuse to try some things to see if they work.
pollyanna26 The lists idea sounds like a good plan, I suppose it's just a case of picking one or two things to write down? or the thing that is bugging me the most? (see what I mean about being unable to stick to anything!) I will try it tomorrow - wish me luck x
I live between 2 high streets that are quite frankly rubbish for food shopping, just pound shops, cafes and charity shops. these are fine for when I need to offload things I don't need anymore but not at the moment.
I've had a Council assement and they said I could have 4 hours respite but that was earlier this year and am still waiting for that, as they have had to cut down on social services they provide.
I am not retired, I'm 60 but I am DH registered carer.
greenbee, I make my own bread so that is no problem but the milk situation is harder I will consider getting the Milk and More man a few times a week , it will be dearer but as I'm not getting a grocery delivery anymore it will be one less thing to worry about. Thank You.
carolbee I LOVE the timer idea, it sounds just the thing to keep me going but also to know that I can stop after a certain time, brilliant. Thank You
mardatha I get 4 x 4pts of milk which usually last from Tuesday til Sunday, I did have a theory that a larger bottle of milk doesn't last as long as ordinary pints because I just swig it in but this may be just my imagination.
nannywindow I've had a look at the daily thread and will probably join tomorrow. Thank You
cranky40 Will try Cravendale tomorrow so I have some emergency milk, not having a cup of tea every 10 minutes is akin to not breathing to me. Thank YouQuot Libros, Quam Breve Tempus

Babs my DH has Cravendale semi-skilled milk on his muesli - 1 4-pint bottle lasts him 7/8 breakfasts. I always buy it because he isn't always at home every night due to his job and it stays fresh for him.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Welcome Babe, hugs to Fuddle and nannywindows.
I've been reading along but not posting much, it's two weeks today until I retire, I will have worked full time for best part of forty years by then. I'm currently trying to do my old job full time and my new job part time.
I've also started a new blanket to keep me busy in the evening, I have limited internet access and only 2 tv channels but I did manage to watch Ruby Wax on Who Do You Think You Are last night. It was very sad.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Hester :j only two more weeks :j:j. I hope you have a happy and long retirement.
I thought I would be a " lady of leisure " but I haven't got the time. :rotfl: What with Mr Fix It's cancer treatments and hospital visits, doctors appointments, an elderly parent and grandchildren I find that some days I need at least 35hrs. Having said that I probably wouldn't know what to do with any spare time now :rotfl:.
Babs I look forward to "see" you over on the daily. I'll probably post late as usual as I am not an early riser, but better late than never !
Cranky and Floss thanks for the mention of Cravendale, I will have to try that too. We usually go through 4x4 pints in a week, more if it's porridge weather, so maybe good as a back up :T.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -
Well I have seen a dentist at last after 8 and a half years. I don't need any fillings!!! :j:j:j:T:T:T:beer::beer::beer: I will have the remnants of my two broken teeth out next month.
I still struggled to find the dental hospital again despite the map. I was supposed to go down a street which crossed over a road. I was supposed to walk to this crossroads turn right and there would be the dental hospital. Where the crossroads was supposed to be was a dirty great university library that looks as if it has been there for years.
The rest of the hospitals over the road is half missing on the map I was given. I think they need a new Map.
Do you all remember I said there were 5 or 6 hospitals all on one site. I jokingly said there were about 50, well it turns out it's 56. Most of them are specialist hospitals rather than lots of different departments. There are another 10 scattered around Manchester that are all part of the teaching hospital.
I did write this morning before I went out. I then realised I had better get a move on. I forgot to post it.
Welcome Babs :T:T
One of the best ways to save money on groceries is to buy as many own brands as you can. That is the big advantage of Ald! and Lid! is all their own brands. I rarely buy any brands at all now.
Most of them are just as good or not enough different that it is worth paying more for brands.
I wish I could send our market to you once a week. I think a few other would like it.
Oh dear fuddle I am sorry you are ill again. Have you had your pneumonia jab yet? Now I hope this works. A great big hug for everyone especially those who are ill or troubled. :kisses::wave::grouphug::grouphug::kisses::kisses3:
It's a good job I took and extra £60 with me this morning. I bought a winter coat, a pink skinny rib jumper. the ribs made of different sized rib patterns, a big warm cardigan to go over the skinny rib when it is really cold. Then I saw some cotton cardigans only £6 with dragonflies on it and some suede real leather gloves. All for a total of only £66. Well I have not had hardly any clothes for the last two years because DS burst out of all his clothes last year just like the incredible hulk.
Look after yourselves everyone.0 -
I had the jab last week NM but unfortunately I have pneumonia again. I'm under the GP this time and he believes that I could be breathing in stomach acid (I have boughts of acid reflux when I'm stressed) and that's causing aspiration pneumonia. We're going to start the ball rolling with tests and the like when I'm better.0
-
That sounds promising. There is a simple remedy for that. You don't want acid reflux at all it can damage your esophagus, (the pipe your food goes down.) If that gets badly damaged you cannot eat or drink.
I hope he sorts it for you. I hope you all feel suitably hugged and kissed.0 -
fuddle darling, how dare you be ill, worrying us all to bits. Isn't that just typical! You wait months and months for your pneumonia jab and when you get at long last, what happens? S*ds Law!
So sorry Babs. I wrote you a long post this morning sorting out your life for you. Goodness knows what happened to it. The ether must be crammed full of my disappearing posts.
Anyway, most of the things I had advised have since been covered by others.
The kitchen timer trick is one I have used for years. It keeps me focused and that is a minor miracle as I am easily distracted.
I also use Cravendale as I don't use much milk and it does last for weeks.
I live on my own, lovely, lovely, lovely, but have given up my car and live in a village with one bus an hour so I know how difficult shopping can be. What I do is one big shop a month for all the items I like to keep in stock. Things like butter, cheese, tea, coffee, flour, tins of meat, fish, beans etc, cleaning stuff, toilet rolls You know the sort of thing. Then, once a week all I have to shop for locally is fresh fruit and veg. Even veg I try to get frozen, they last longer and have more vitamins than fresh veg that has been lingering on a supermarket shelf.
Perhaps you could have one big order online a month and only have to shop for odd bits.
As for DH and his clutter...GROAN!
If I were you I would be inclined to leave it in boxes. If he wants something you could get it out of the box for him and put it back afterwards. With a bit of luck he will forget what he has got and you can sneak stuff out of the flat and into the CS. You can't have scruples in this case.
Stick with us petal. We'll get you sorted.
I have a book where I write down quotations or little bits of writing that I particularly like. It seems a shame that they should stay hidden so I intend to add one every day that I post on here. Some of them may have originated from here in the first place so if any of them seem familiar, they probably are.
Today's pleasant thought.
